Super Quotes #33 — A Better Attitude
They feel your attitude, habit in little matters, and rejecting the bad things
“People may hear your words, but they feel your attitude.“
— John C. Maxwell, American Author, Speaker, and Pastor
It is common knowledge that most of our human communication is non-verbal. Your attitude is a big part of that. If you have a strong, positive attitude towards life, people will subconsciously recognise that and treat you well; the opposite, negative side of that is also true.
Make your best effort to have a positive attitude, especially when dealing with other people. If you can do that, then the battle is already 90% won as you’ve set the tone for how people should treat you, all without saying a word.
“If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.”
— Colin Powell, American Army Officer and Secretary of State
We humans are creatures of habit. If you have bad habits with the little things then it’s highly likely that you’ll carry that poor performance over when you try to do the big things. You might feel more motivated when doing something that’s more important to you, but it won’t be enough to make a big difference in outcome. You’ve become too used to doing things a certain (incorrect) way.
If you want to achieve excellence in the big things in your life, then you have to start with excellent habits and performance in the little things. Those little habits will develop over time until your excellence is a built-in, natural attitude!
”Reject your sense of injury and the injury itself disappears.”
— Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor
The idea of “I am hurt“ is all in the mind; the stoic philosophers (Marcus Aurelius being one of the big 3) knew this well.
You can take a job loss as a humiliation — or you can consider it an opportunity to find something better
You can take an insult as a strike against you — or you can consider it a reflection of the other person and a time to practice your resilience
You can take a delay in your travels as an annoyance — or you can consider it a chance to practice your patience
Your sense of injury is mostly in the mind. Take a positive, growth-oriented attitude and every situation in life will be an opportunity for you.
