Super Quotes #20
Good life, trading anger for happiness, and the essence of heroes.
“Not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued.”
— Socrates; Greek Philosopher
Everyone lives their life in the sense that they are born, go to school, work, have some experiences, and die. But that doesn’t sound very exciting, does it? It sounds boring and honestly wasteful.
Instead, you should strive to live a good life.
Be bold and take risks — that’s how you achieve great things
Seek exciting and unique experiences — that’s how you create great memories
Love deeply and with all your heart — that’s how you will be happy
If you do these things, you will look back on your life and smile with the thought that you made the most of every moment.
“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson; American Essayist
Getting angry no matter what it’s for doesn’t do you any good. At best, you let out your frustration for a few moments and are in a bad mood for the rest of the day. At worst, you end up hurting yourself and others. All it does is take away your opportunity to be happy.
Whenever you feel yourself becoming angry, slow down for just a moment. Ask yourself: is this worth not being happy? Happiness is always so much more worth it.
“Heroes are heroes because they are heroic in behavior, not because they won or lost.”
― Nassim Nicholas Taleb; Scholar and Flâneur
The hardest thing to do in life is to act with courage because it requires you to move forward in the face of the most powerful human emotion of all: fear. But that’s exactly what makes it heroic; it’s so hard to do and so rare for a person to have that quality.
Do not judge others, or yourself, based only on results as there is often much luck and other external factors involved. Judge them based on the courage it required to attain those results as that is the ultimate test of character.
